Job Description
Job Title: Dental Assistant Profession: Dentistry Specialty: Dental Assistant Duration: 13 months Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (07:30 - 16:30) Experience: Completion of an approved Dental Assistant training program or one year of experience as a chairside Dental Assistant. Must have worked as a dental assistant in an advanced specialty within the last 5 years. License: Certification by the State Board of Dentistry for Radiological Proficiency required for all positions. Certifications: Current valid Basic Life Support (BLS) card required from an approved vendor. Must-Have: Skilled at exposing radiographs. Experience in sterilization of instruments. Description: The dental school prepares graduates in general dentistry and the dental specialties to deliver compassionate and ethical oral-facial health care. Provides chairside assistance and support to surgeons, residents, interns, and students. Works within the dental team to address specific patient needs and provide educational and operative instruction. Assisting duties include tissue retraction, suctioning, disinfection of treatment rooms and surgical suites, and tray setup and breakdown. Involved in exposure of radiographs and communicates post-operative instructions to the patient. Responsible for taking impressions and pouring models. Organizes the workday according to the patient schedule and is responsible for the patient for the duration of the appointment. Takes and records basic patient and vital information. Works with the provider to enter the treatment plan and manage patient records. Communicates with the scheduling team for patient follow-up appointments. Prepares instruments for sterilization and is responsible for preparation and disinfection of clinical rooms. Seeks out maintenance of equipment and instruments, assembles, organizes supplies, and manages inventory. Orders supplies as needed, cleans, organizes, and stocks supplies in clinical areas. Assists other dental assistants through training and guidance to create a teamwork environment. Provides support to dental students in techniques of four-handed dentistry and reinforces aseptic techniques. Explains and demonstrates equipment care and evaluates students for infection control compliance. Performs job duties in compliance with state and national regulations. Engages in all clinical operations-related tasks as assigned. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to new situations and processes based on clinical needs are essential. Ability to push, pull, lift 50 pounds and to carry 30 pounds is required. Must be able to stoop, turn, bend, kneel, and reach above and below shoulders. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform repetitive motions for prolonged periods is necessary. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required for safety. Ability to operate computers and job-related equipment is also essential.
