Job Description
Job Title: Pharmacy Coordinator Profession: Pharmacy Specialty: Pharmacy Duration: Full Time Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 37.5 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 5 years recent experience as a Pharmacist in an acute hospital setting. License: Current New York License and registration. Certifications: Graduate from an accredited school of Pharmacy with a minimum of a BS in Pharmacy. Must-Have: 2-3 years hospital sterile products management experience preferred. Description: Under the general direction of the Director/Assistant of Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Coordinator for controlled substances and sterile products provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care. The coordinator will primarily be involved in providing clinical, dispensing, and regulatory guidance for controlled substance and sterile product practices. This role includes establishing new workflows and implementing quality assurance. Responsibilities include record keeping and equipment maintenance for the IV room and controlled substance safe. The Pharmacy Coordinator demonstrates leadership and management skills and a commitment to customer service and professional growth. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Understands and adheres to performance standards, policies, and behaviors. Understands and adheres to all state and federal regulations related to controlled substances, including receiving, storage, dispensing, record keeping, monitoring, and tracking. Understands and adheres to state and federal regulations regarding the preparation, stability, and sterility of products, compliance of environmental controls, and maintenance of sterile product preparation areas and equipment. Assures the delivery of quality services in accordance with established standards. Responsible for the overall operations of the IV area and controlled substance safe, including the development of area goals and objectives consistent with the organization's mission. Responsible for the management of personnel, monitoring of aseptic technique, quality assurance, and compliance with regulatory standards. Creates, revises, and monitors compliance with policies regarding IV and controlled substance services as needed. Provides daily staffing duties. Oversees the Cancer Center Pharmacy in the absence of the department manager. Prepares and oversees the safe preparation of sterile products while training and monitoring compliance with operational standards. Monitors compliance with hazardous product standards. Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure optimum patient care. Participates in the Performance Improvement Program as defined by the organization. Responsible for participation in committees, task forces, and appropriate projects. Assures the provision of a safe work environment. Provides data and workflow feedback to assist interdisciplinary teams with achieving goals. Participates in programs for drug diversion and develops metrics for safe management of opioids and analgesics. Maintains knowledge related to sterile product operations and equipment. Works collaboratively with all levels of the interdisciplinary team and promotes a team concept within the Pharmacy department and organization. Demonstrates positive customer service and fosters positive employee relations. Supports initiatives and functions as a positive change agent. Promotes a professional image and is a role model, coach, mentor, and resource for staff and peers. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
