Job Description

We are seeking a board-certified Gastroenterologist for a locum tenens assignment in Virginia. This as-needed opportunity begins on Nov 27, 2025, and involves 24-hour shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 a.m. as part of the facility's float pool. The ideal candidate will possess a current VA license, clean malpractice history, and be available to cover open shifts. Proficiency with Epic EMR is required. Job Details Location: Virginia Start Date: Nov 27, 2025 LOA: 1 Provider Type Needed: Gastroenterologist Schedule: 7 a.m. - 7 a.m., as needed; float pool coverage Responsibilities and Duties Perform esophageal dilatation and manometry Interpret esophageal manometry studies Conduct small bowel biopsies Perform lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy Conduct liver biopsies Insert and manage Sengstaken/Blakemore tubes Perform endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) Conduct upper GI endoscopy, including: Biopsy Foreign body removal Fulguration of bleeder (cautery or laser) Injection or banding of varices ERCP (diagnostic and therapeutic) PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) Manage an average of 8 GI procedures per weekend Provide care within GI, hepatology, RGA, surgery, colon, EGD, and ERCP cases Additional Information Board certification in Gastroenterology required VA license required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Flu shot required; COVID vaccine highly preferred Clean malpractice history required for temporary privileges Must be available to cover open shifts to be considered Experience with Epic EMR preferred Benefits Strong compensation Travel-related expenses covered A-rated medical malpractice insurance provided Dedicated recruiter for future travel opportunities What are Locum Tenens Jobs?
