Job Description

Shift: Mon-Fri 8-4. Day shift hours may vary as needed. Description: Under the general direction of the Director/Assistant of Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Coordinator - Controlled Substances and Sterile Products provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care and collaborates with the pharmacy and nursing teams. The coordinator will primarily provide clinical, dispensing, and regulatory guidance regarding controlled substances and sterile product practices. This role includes establishing new workflows, implementing quality assurance, maintaining records, and overseeing equipment in the IV area. The coordinator demonstrates leadership and management skills while committing to customer service and professional growth. The coordinator understands and adheres to all performance standards, policies, and behaviors. The coordinator complies with state and federal regulations related to receiving, storing, dispensing, monitoring, and tracking controlled substances. The role also includes ensuring compliance with regulations governing sterile product preparation, stability, sterility dating, and environmental controls. The coordinator is responsible for the overall operations of the IV area and compliance with standards for procedures and equipment usage. The coordinator creates and monitors compliance regarding IV and controlled substance services as needed. Daily staffing duties will be a part of the coordinator's responsibilities. Oversight and supervision of pharmacy operations in the absence of the department manager will be necessary. The coordinator prepares and oversees the safe preparation of sterile products while training staff on compliance with operating standards. The role involves monitoring compliance with hazardous products according to industry standards. Collaboration with healthcare team members to assure optimal patient care is essential. Employee competency and education requirements must be satisfied according to policy. Participation in performance improvement programs, committees, task forces, and projects is required. The coordinator ensures a safe work environment for employees. Providing data and workflow feedback assists interdisciplinary teams in achieving goals. Development of metrics to measure the management of opioid therapy is part of the role. Maintaining knowledge of sterile product operations, equipment, and maintenance is necessary. The coordinator works collaboratively with all levels of the healthcare team and promotes a team concept. Demonstrating positive customer service and fostering employee relations is vital. The coordinator supports hospital initiatives and functions as a positive change agent. Promoting a professional image and serving as a role model, coach, and mentor for staff and peers is essential. The coordinator performs all other related duties as assigned. Experience: Relevant experience in pharmacy coordination License: Current pharmacy license required Certifications: Relevant certifications in pharmacy Must-Have: Strong understanding of controlled substances regulations and sterile product practices
