About the role My client seeks a well-rounded Head of Finance to join the team as they move the business forward. The ideal person will be a highly dependable, savvy and trusted individual that strives for operational excellence. They are adaptable and responsible for the timely collation of data and provision of information to assist in the efficient running of the finance and accounting function. As the Head of Finance, you will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for overseeing the Finance Assistant/bookkeeper. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to take the next step in growth with exposure to the full finance function but the need and requirement to fulfil the daily duties too. A good knowledge or some practical experience in the following areas would be highly desirable. Financial instruments, revaluation reserves, data analysis, process and controls development, improving and modernising financial processes. Required Skills and Experience ACCA/CIMA Qualified, or AAT and qualified by experience Experience working in a Head of Finance style role Great computer literacy skills Excellent at using Excel Strong working knowledge of Xero extremely desirable Superb attention to detail Experience implementing improved business processes to enhance financial control A genuine enjoyment for collating data and using it to produce information for analysis A good knowledge of financial instruments A strong knowledge of cost allocation Adherence to deadlines Willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in Exposure to putting together a management pack Driven by accuracy Logical thinker Key duties and responsibilities All round accountancy role, handling ledgers, reconciliations and month end tasks Executing financial processes such as, journal entries (including prepayments and accruals), balance sheet reconciliations for month-end close, and fixed asset register maintenance Review of finance assistants output Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements for review Assistance in data collation for budgeting and forecasting Assist in all aspects of the finance function to enable teams objectives and financial targets to be met Preparation of monthly cash flow Ensuring creditors are settled in an appropriate manner Preparing VAT returns Oversee and manage accounts inbox, including liaising with customers and suppliers as necessary Working with heads of departments to correctly manage intercompany cross charges /complex reconciliations Support with review and development of improved systems, processes and controls to ensure sound financial management Ensure all regulatory and compliance needs are met Prepare ad hoc reports as requested Ensure accurate and understandable records are kept throughout the finance function Assist in monitoring of contracts Other ad hoc finance tasks determined by the CEO and as required by the business 1 Financial Planning and Strategy Developing financial strategies to support business growth and profitability Forecasting and budgeting to ensure financial stability Identifying and mitigating financial risks Executing financial processes such as, journal entries (including prepayments and accruals), balance sheet reconciliations for month-end close, and fixed asset register maintenance Assisting with data collection and analysis for budgeting and forecasting 2. Financial Reporting and Compliance Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts Preparing ad hoc reports as requested Ensuring compliance with UK accounting standards (e.g., UK GAAP, IFRS) Managing audits and liaising with external auditors Ensuring VAT, corporate tax, and PAYE compliance with HMRC 3. Cash Flow and Treasury Management Monitoring and managing cash flow to ensure liquidity Optimising working capital (accounts payable, receivable, and inventory) 4. Cost Control and Profitability Analysing financial performance and cost structures Identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising operations Implementing financial controls and processes 5. Business Partnering and Decision Support Providing financial insights to support senior management decision-making Collaborating with colleagues to align financial goals with business objectives Supporting investment and expansion decisions through financial modelling Oversee and manage accounts inbox, including liaising with customers and suppliers as necessary 6. Financial Systems and Process Improvement Implementing and maintaining accounting and ERP systems Enhancing financial processes to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy 7.
