Job Description

As an Infrastructure Engineer within the DWP Enterprise Tooling Team you will be joining a team of IT Engineers that are committed to designing, developing,deployingand supporting core IT services that underpin the DWPs citizen facing systems. These services provide the monitoring necessary to know how healthy the underlying infrastructure or application is and that core IT services areoperatingin a performant manner. Our current Tooling Portfolio includesthe Autosys Workload Automationproduct.This orchestrates many of the Departments batch systems ensuring that they completein atimely manner.Previousexperiencein this toolsetis preferred thoughnot essential as training will be provided to the right candidate. Whilst the service we offeroperatespredominantly ona Linux estate there is a small amount of Windows Server systems which you must also be confident managing. Your experience in remotely managing both operating systems will be key to your success in this role. Our Tooling Portfolio monitors and analyses our Hybrid hosting estate which is heavily leaning toward a substantial Public Cloud footprint. Therefore, we are looking for applicants with engineering skills and confidence to deploy and support cloud instance elements both via the console or using Infrastructure as Code techniques. As we move towards more solutions based on containerisation technologies you will also be expected to have, and be able todemonstrate, a good understanding of this. Yourrole will involve investigating issues, as and when they arise, ensuring that ourWorkload Automationserviceisrunning optimally andassistingwith testing,validatingand producing deployment plans for product upgrades and patches. You will be working to ITIL standards across Incident, Problem and Change management as youmaintainthe Portfolio of Enterprise Tools within our domain to provide a robust and modern enterprise strength capability. Workinglevel experience of IT infrastructure concepts is essential as this knowledge will allow you to work in collaboration with a range of internal and external partners,stakeholdersand customers. You will be responsible forthe design,deliveryand on-boarding of new services to ourexistingWorkload Automationsystem to ensure that individual batches run by each PDUcompletein a timely manner,thusallowingpayments to be made through the Central Payments System. You will have responsibility for managing seamless batch integrations to updated infrastructure bothon-premiseand in cloud ensuring zero downtime. You will alsobe responsible forensuring the operational stability of our solutions and to improve the on-going robustness and resilience of this product. In addition, you will utilise our other product sets such as Splunk, Dynatrace and BMC to proactivelymonitorand address potential issues. Thesuccessful applicantswill be part of a team, working closely with other Enterprise Tooling teams, Live Service engineers and application owners to ensure the systems and services, whichmonitorand manage the DWP estate, are operational, performant and that key application metrics are produced accurately. The Enterprise Toolingteamis responsible forproviding a 24/7 service, which means you willbe requiredtoprovide out of hours support, which is typically, a weekon and week off.A small claimable allowance is available for being on call. Demonstrableexperienceofeffectively communicating atdifferent levels, across support and engineering, business users,architectureand suppliers.This will includeevidence of taking decisionsregardingthe prioritisation of your ongoing tasks as well as involvement in planning current and future deliverables and providing regular reporting to product and delivery managers. Demonstrate experience of working within an ITIL Framework and specifically providing2nd/3rd line support for incidents,problemsand changes. Track recordof usingmultiplediagnostic techniques and methods in analysing and resolving issues, working up new practices andproceduresormodifyingexisting processes to improve performance. Provenexperience of being able to script in multiple languages, asappropriate,to deployorenhancefeaturesortoresolve issueson a Linux / UNIX distribution and Windows Servers. Demonstrate an ability to executeexisting CICD pipelines,implementimprovementsto existing CICD pipelines and create new CICD pipelines utilising tools such as Terraform and Ansible Automation Platform. This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. Salary Information Pay for this role is from 44,447to 46,547. The maximum salary for the grade is46,547, however a Digital Allowance of up to 5,895per annum is available for exceptional candidates. Digital Allowance is non-salary, and non-pensionable, and is classed as a temporary allowance. It is reviewed annually where it could beretained, amended, or removed.
