Job Description

Role / Job Title: Vehicle Safety Engineer Work Location: Gaydon / Whitley, UK (On site) Desired Competencies (Technical / Behavioral Competency) Must-Have: Experience in vehicle safety testing, validation, or lab operations. Familiarity with safety standards (Euro NCAP, FMVSS, UN-ECE) and test protocols. Basic understanding of instrumentation and data acquisition systems. A degree or diploma in a relevant engineering discipline, such as Mechanical, Automobile, or Electrical, is typically required. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in parts and facility coordination. Good-to-Have: Experience with hydraulic/pneumatic control systems and crash test rigs. Knowledge of structured problem-solving tools (e.g., 8D, FMEA, Six Sigma). Ability to work flexibly across shifts and tight deadlines. Strong communication and teamwork skills across engineering and operations. Responsibilities / Expectations from the Role: Assist in developing and maintaining detailed test schedules for safety validation activities. Coordinate with internal teams to align test timing with engineering and program delivery milestones. Track readiness of vehicles, instrumentation, and test rigs for upcoming tests. Ensure test facilities are prepared and configured for each test event, including rig setup, instrumentation, and safety protocols. Liaise with lab technicians and facility managers to resolve setup issues and maintain compliance with safety standards. Support calibration and maintenance of test equipment and data acquisition systems. Manage the sourcing, tracking, and delivery of test parts, including safety-critical components like airbags, sensors, and restraint systems. Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure timely availability of parts for vehicle builds and test setups. Coordinate with suppliers and logistics teams to resolve delays or discrepancies. Support creation of test plans, instrumentation layouts, and post-test reports. Assist in data collection and analysis using tools like Catman, DIAdem, and high-speed camera systems. Contribute to homologation documentation and sign-off reports for regulatory compliance.
