A recent professional profile photo is to accompany your application EMPLOYMENT TYPE : Permanent SECTOR : Agriculture BASIC SALARY : Market Related START DATE : A.S.A.P / Immediate REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 35 years experience operating tractors and spray equipment in an agricultural environment. Minimum of Grade 10 (Standard 8) or equivalent qualification. Valid South African drivers license (Code 8 or 10). Chemical Applicator Certificate / Pest Control Operator (PCO) training or equivalent qualification (advantageous). General knowledge of farm operations, crops, pests, and diseases will be an advantage. DUTIES: Tractor Operation and Spraying: Operate tractors and spray equipment for pest, weed, and disease control in various crop areas. Prepare and calibrate sprayers for accurate and uniform chemical application. Mix and load agricultural chemicals in accordance with label instructions and safety guidelines. Maintain accurate spraying records, including chemicals used, application rates, and weather conditions. Perform other tractor-related activities such as mowing, mulching, land preparation, and transporting materials as required. Chemical Handling and Safety: Handle, mix, and apply chemicals (fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides) according to farm protocols and legal regulations. Ensure safe storage, usage, and disposal of chemicals and containers. Monitor chemical inventory and report stock shortages or damaged containers. Always wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during spraying operations. Ensure compliance with Act 36 of 1947 (Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993). Equipment Maintenance: Conduct daily pre-start checks and routine maintenance on tractors and sprayers (tyres, oil, filters, hoses, and nozzles). Clean and flush spray equipment after each use to prevent contamination and equipment damage. Report on mechanical faults or maintenance needs from the Workshop Technician or Farm Manager immediately. Recordkeeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate logs of spraying activities, chemical usage, and equipment maintenance. Assist the Farm Manager in monitoring crop health and suggest appropriate interventions when necessary. Report any safety incidents, spills, or equipment malfunctions promptly. General Farm Support: Assist in other farm operations such as planting, irrigation, pruning, harvesting, and general maintenance when not spraying. Support the team in maintaining clean and organized work, storage, and operational areas. HOURS: Monday to Friday: 07:00 17:00
