Job Description

Role: Staff Data Engineer Length: 6 months (potential for extension) Location: Downtown Toronto (1 day onsite) Your New Company Join a national leader in retail and digital transformation, where data is central to driving customer experience, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making. You’ll be part of a high-performing data engineering team focused on building scalable, reliable, and modern data infrastructure across the enterprise. Your New Role As a Staff Data Engineer , you will lead the design, development, and optimization of enterprise-grade data pipelines and BI infrastructure. You’ll work across teams to architect robust ETL/ELT workflows, enable high-quality reporting, and ensure data integrity across platforms. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll guide technical strategy, mentor engineers, and drive best practices in data engineering. Architect and implement scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using modern tools and frameworks Design and optimize data models for analytics and reporting (dimensional, star/snowflake schemas) Collaborate with BI developers and analysts to deliver reliable, performant dashboards and insights Lead initiatives to modernize legacy data systems into cloud-native platforms (e.g., GCP, BigQuery, dbt) Ensure data quality, governance, and lineage across the data ecosystem Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership across the team Drive automation, CI/CD, and observability for data workflows Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable data solutions What You’ll Need to Succeed 10 years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on BI and ETL development Deep expertise in SQL, data modeling, and performance tuning Hands-on experience with modern data platforms (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Azure Synapse) Proficiency in ETL tools and orchestration frameworks (e.g., dbt, Airflow, Informatica) Strong understanding of data warehousing principles and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) Experience with cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices (Docker, CI/CD, Terraform) Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor engineering teams What You’ll Get in Return Competitive compensation and benefits package Hybrid work flexibility in a collaborative team environment Opportunity to lead strategic data initiatives in a national organization Access to modern technologies and enterprise-scale data platforms Career growth in a company committed to innovation and data excellence What You Need to Do Now If you’re ready to take on a leadership role in data engineering and help shape the future of enterprise analytics, apply now with your updated resume.
