AEMO statement – flooding in Cooper Basin

Yesterday (23 April), AEMO was made aware of flooding near the Moomba gas production facility in South Australia. The facility operator, Santos, has reduced production, as reflected on AEMO’s Gas Bulletin Board . In addition, the Moomba to Adelaide Pipeline owner Epic Energy has advised AEMO that a section of the pipeline has been impacted by the flooding, restricting capacity. Epic is undertaking daily assessments. At this stage, gas supply remains adequate to meet demand in the East Coast Gas Market and to support gas generation in the National Electricity Market (NEM). AEMO has held an industry briefing on the flooding impacts to gas production and pipeline capacity. AEMO is also modelling gas supply forecasts for the upcoming winter period.
