Job Description

The Toolmaker Technician for cable extrusion is responsible for fabricating, maintaining, and repairing precision tools, dies, and molds used in the extrusion process. This role ensures that all tooling equipment functions correctly to produce high-quality cable products. The technician works closely with production and engineering teams to support continuous manufacturing operations and minimize downtime. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications to fabricate precision tools Fabricate, assemble, and repair extrusion dies, molds, and related tooling with precision. Setup, operate and maintain manual and CNC machining equipment, including but not limited to lathes, grinders, and milling machines Perform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools to ensure accuracy Ability to work with close tolerances and fine finishes Ability to design, create, assemble, repair, or modify tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures to meet production needs Collaborate with engineers and production staff to modify or improve tooling designs as needed. Maintain accurate records of tooling maintenance, repairs, and modifications, and preventive maintenance schedules Ensure all tools comply with safety and quality regulations. Support setup and calibration of extrusion equipment related to tooling. Diagnose and resolve tooling-related issues quickly to minimize production interruptions. Suggest and implement continuous improvements in tooling and processes to enhance efficiency and product quality. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area. Troubleshoot tooling issues and collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve problem Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure Train and mentor junior toolmakers and other production staff as needed Ensure all work meets quality control standards and safety regulations Proactively work to improve efficiency and quality of products Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. 5 years of experience in production planning, materials coordination, or purchasing within a manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of MRP systems, inventory control, and procurement processes. Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) and Microsoft Excel. Excellent organizational and analytical skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Effective communication and negotiation skills with suppliers and internal teams. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, demand forecasting, or supply chain optimization is an advantage. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
