Junior Sommelier / Mixologist / Beverage Manager - Umhlanga

Luxury Private Members Club based in Umhlanga is looking for a Junior Sommelier / Mixologist / Beverage Manager to craft beverages , managing inventory and bar operations and providing exceptional customer service , with responsibilities including assisting with cocktail and wine service , maintaining bar cleanliness , taking orders, training staff and developing new drink concepts. Key qualifications include strong knowledge of spirits, wines and mixology , excellent communication and customer service skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Duties: Beverage Preparation: Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including classic cocktails and new creations, ensuring quality and presentation standards are met. Customer Service: Engage with guests to understand their preferences and make personalized recommendations for wines and cocktails that complement their meals or tastes. Inventory & Bar Management: Monitor and maintain inventory levels of bar supplies, glassware, and equipment, ensuring proper storage, rotation, and timely replenishment. Cleanliness & Safety: Ensure the bar area is always clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations. Staff Training: Train and mentor junior staff on beverage knowledge, preparation techniques, and customer service best practices. Menu Development: Contribute to the creation and updating of beverage menus, suggesting wine and food pairings, and keeping up with industry trends. Requirements: Grade 12 Formal qualification At least 5 years’ experience in a luxury 5* environment in a similar role In-depth knowledge of spirits, wines, liqueurs, and cocktail techniques. Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Familiarity with bar equipment, point-of-sale systems, and potentially beverage management software. Creativity, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
