About The Position JOB OVERVIEW Job Title: Hematology/Oncology (NP/PA) Job Type: Locum Tenens Location: Waterford, CT (with coverage also in Norwich and Plainfield, CT) Service Setting: Outpatient, with potential inpatient component Coverage Type: Clinical Only Coverage Period: 09/24/2025 02/28/2026 (minimum 3 months, potential extension) Clinical Shift Schedule: Monday Friday, 8a 4:30p (negotiable) COVERAGE DATES Start: 09/24/2025 (minimum 3-month commitment) End: 02/28/2026 (with possible extension) PATIENT INFORMATION Patient Demographics: Adults (hematology/oncology population) Patient Volume/Census: Full daily schedule (8 hours patient-facing per day) Admissions: Potential inpatient consults if applicable Rounding: Limited, primarily outpatient-focused Phone Consults: Yes Case Mix: General oncology and benign hematology; GI/GU oncology focus preferred but not required Procedures: Bone marrow biopsies in-office APP Duties: Follow-up visits, chemotherapy education, emergent infusion center support FACILITY INFORMATION Specialty Backup Available: Oncology group support Support Staff Available: Infusion center staff, RNs, MAs Reason for Coverage: Provider on FMLA leave PRIVILEGES & COMPLIANCE Hospital Privileges Required: Yes (if inpatient coverage included) Temporary Privileges Available: Potential expedited credentialing Credentialing Timeline: Typically 90 days; expedited requests possible with CT license Compliance Requirements: Standard immunizations and credentialing requirements COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Rate (APP): Fixed (Daily OT after 12 hours; Weekly OT after 168 hours) Travel, Lodging, and Malpractice Insurance: Covered (details TBD) REQUIRED PROCEDURES Bone marrow biopsies (in-office) Outpatient hematology/oncology procedures as appropriate JOB REQUIREMENTS Licenses: Active Connecticut license required Board: Board Certified/Board Eligible in Hematology/Oncology (for physicians) DEA: Required Certifications: None specified Experience: 1 year; oncology/hematology experience preferred Other Qualifications: Ability to manage oncology patients independently; APPs experienced in oncology encouraged DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Manage outpatient oncology and hematology patient base Provide chemotherapy education and support infusion center staff Perform bone marrow biopsies in-office Cover inpatient consults as needed (if within provider scope) Take on-call responsibilities (physicians only, every 3rd weekend and 1 weekday per week) Collaborate with oncology team, APPs, and support staff to ensure continuity of care 1669591EXPTEMP Top Reasons to Choose a Locum Tenens Assignment Adjust your work schedule to accommodate personal commitments, hobbies, or pursuits outside of medicine, promoting a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.
