Job Description
Key Responsibilities Toolmaking Duties Manufacture new tooling and spares to support production and meet customer deadlines. Take ownership of less complex tool suites with minimal supervision. Identify and manage tooling spares requirements and usage. Support the full lifecycle of new tooling projects, from commissioning to production. Participate in tooling trials and buyoffs. Stay updated with trends in manufacturing and engineering related to toolmaking. Accurately record all tooling data on the Tool Room database. Maintenance & Production Support Perform routine servicing, repairs, and maintenance on tooling, jigs, moulds, and fixtures. Respond to breakdowns and perform Planned Preventative Maintenance. Conduct root cause analysis for equipment issues. Carry out engineering-level modifications and implement changes within defined timeframes. Test tooling for electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic operation prior to release to production. Attend relevant meetings and contribute to team discussions. Train and support apprentices and other staff within the department. Achieving Quality Standards Ensure all work adheres to internal quality standards and industry regulations. Contribute to departmental improvement initiatives and projects. Apply 5S principles to maintain a clean and organized workspace. Track progress and report on special assignments as needed. Reporting & Administration Identify and report activities that could lead to damage or harm. Document and report root causes of breakdowns, lost time, and incidents. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of work completed. Compliance Operate in accordance with company procedures to protect integrity and compliance. Ensure that all risk assessments are read, understood, and followed. Promote a culture of safety, environmental awareness, and regulatory compliance. Ensure PPE is used appropriately and any issues are reported. Customer Service Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Resolve problems promptly and professionally, in line with the company's values. Cost Control Use financial and material resources efficiently. Monitor expenditure, reduce waste, and escalate budget deviations as necessary. Work within cost control measures related to tooling and production activities. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications Matric (NQF Level 4) Trade Test: Toolmaker (NQF Level 5) Experience At least 3 years of technical, maintenance, and toolmaking experience in a manufacturing environment Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience operating toolroom equipment (e.g., lathes, milling machines) Advantageous: CNC experience Technical Competencies Basic computer literacy (MS Office, SAP, ERP systems) Sound understanding of maintenance procedures and design standards Knowledge of standard operating procedures, safety, and housekeeping practice
