Job Location

Job Description

Position SummaryThe Civil Engineering Program at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position specializing in civil engineering beginning in Fall 2026 (starting in August of 2026), with ongoing teaching assignments in the fall and spring terms each year. The Civil Engineering Program at York College was launched in Fall 2016 with an inaugural class of 19 students and is part of a growing and highly successful engineering program of nearly 100 students at York College. The program is housed in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, as part of the Kinsley School of Engineering, Sciences and Technology ([https://www.ycp.edu/academics/kinsley-school-of-engineering-sciences-and-technology/](https://www.ycp.edu/academics/kinsley-school-of-engineering-sciences-and-technology/)). In Fall 2018 we opened a new civil engineering center with classrooms, labs and office space. The program has an active student chapter of ASCE and is accredited by ABET under the General Criteria and the Program Criteria for Civil and Similarly Named Engineering Programs. We are seeking a collaborative colleague who is committed to excellence in civil engineering education and interested in contributing to building and growing a state of the art, forward thinking, and progressive civil engineering curriculum that will prepare and develop students to be successful civil engineers or pursue graduate degrees for the 21st Century. The engineering programs at York College are characterized by small class sizes, a hands-on approach, and extensive student/faculty interactions. All engineering students participate in two semesters of full-time cooperative education, gaining valuable professional experience. This is facilitated by strong partnerships with local and national industry collaborators and typically means that all of our graduates have job offers prior to their graduation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach and support undergraduates in one or more areas of civil engineering. Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to teach across a broad range of civil engineering and basic engineering mechanics courses, possess other specialties in civil engineering, and/or who have industrial work experience. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the potential for outstanding teaching/advising, ongoing college service, and professional development, developing undergraduate courses, and working with industry and undergraduate students in applied research. Graduates of the ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Workshop are especially encouraged to apply. Outstanding teaching and advising are of primary importance, with the successful candidate being expected to advise undergraduate students regarding their course curriculum and on career matters. In addition, the successful candidate will also be expected to engage in service to the department, College, and community, and will be strongly encouraged to engage in research involving undergraduate students. Experience and Education RequiredApplicants must have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, or a closely related field, and should have a record of successful undergraduate teaching. Registration as a professional engineer (PE) or the ability to obtain a license as a professional engineer is highly desired. Required Skills and QualificationsTop candidates will demonstrate the potential for outstanding teaching and mentoring undergraduates, and those candidates with either prior teaching or industry experience are highly valued. Strong communication skills, the ability to work with undergraduate students, and ability to teach in a project-based setting are essential. *Interested candidates should electronically submit a cover letter with a description of relevant experience (to include professional registration status, i.e. passed the FE, or PE), a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a plan for involving undergraduates in research, and the names of at least three references.* *Additional Information* York College of Pennsylvania is an [Equal Opportunity Employer](https://www.ycp.edu/offices-departments/human-resources/college-policies/equal-opportunity-statement) and [Non-Discriminatory](https://www.ycp.edu/offices-departments/human-resources/title-ix).
