Job Title: Clinical Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 12.5 Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience, 2 years of Medical Surgical experience License: Client RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing considered with relevant experience and/or active enrollment in a BSN program. Description: The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and their significant others. Delivers patient care by incorporating the principles of Relationship Centered Care and through the application of the nursing process based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved nursing standards. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs and applies critical thinking skills in patient care management. Integrates relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Prioritizes all aspects of patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, planning after hospital care, and delegating to others as appropriate. Educates patients and caregivers about their plan of care, the transition of care, promotion of health, and prevention of disease while anticipating their needs and readiness to learn. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, families, and all members of the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team. Manages assignments within a specified Care Delivery Model and demonstrates effective allocation of resources. Role models the principles of Relationship Centered Care by facilitating essential actions such as patient admission welcome, bedside shift report, and high-risk medication review. Considers patients' values, preferences, cultural diversity, expressed needs, and knowledge in all aspects of care. Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients and families. Uses evidence-based practices to enhance understanding of patient perceptions of care. Initiates service recovery for patients and family members with concerns and escalates issues as needed. Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening through communication and actions. Conducts purposeful hourly rounding on assigned patients. Practices safe and efficient patient-centered care and identifies barriers and improvement opportunities. Demonstrates clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served. Implements process improvement strategies based on evidence-based practices and established procedures. Engages in formal and informal peer review processes to enhance patient care. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement quality improvement projects and nursing research studies. Contributes to quality and safety practices and compliance measures. Implements principles of high reliability to identify and mitigate risks in the healthcare environment. Utilizes information technology to document nursing practice in support of quality initiatives. Performs charge nurse duties as assigned and coordinates with nurse managers to ensure the appropriate use of supplies and sufficient inventory for patient care. Escalates resource deficits to appropriate management personnel. Documents in an accurate and thorough manner in compliance with regulatory standards. Facilitates patient throughput on a shift basis. Contributes to the environment of care that supports clinical colleagues, patients, and their families. Advances clinical competence in nursing practice and communicates with empathy and respect. Incorporates ethical principles into decision-making for patients and families. Encourages and demonstrates a spirit of inquiry and lifelong learning for self and others. Participates in shared decision-making through nursing department committees and unit initiatives.
