Job Description

The Chief Engineer – New Build (Operational Readiness) will play a key role in the technical commissioning and operational preparation of a 56m new-build sailing yacht ahead of delivery. Reporting to the Operational Readiness Manager, this role ensures that all documentation, technical systems, and crew training are aligned with project timelines and industry standards to support a smooth and successful handover. Key Responsibilities Coordinate procurement and inventory of first fill spares, consumables, and Owner Supply Items (OSI) for commissioning. Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, operational manuals, and onboard checklists. Support the development and population of the Planned Maintenance Management System (PMMS). Collaborate with shipyard and project teams to ensure timely delivery of operational systems. Assist in creating a training matrix and scheduling crew familiarisation sessions. Support implementation of safety protocols and statutory compliance documentation. Participate in commissioning activities and ensure the operational team understands all critical systems. Liaise with subcontractors and vendors to resolve technical issues as directed by the Operational Readiness Manager. Qualifications & Experience Valid Y3 CoC or higher, recognised by the vessel’s flag state. Fully qualified to serve as Chief Engineer on the vessel at completion. Minimum 5 years of yachting or maritime industry experience, including involvement in new build or refit projects. Experience working in a shipyard environment preferred. Familiarity with operational systems and procedures for large yachts or commercial vessels. Proficient in document control and maintenance planning software. Strong technical knowledge of yacht systems and engineering operations. Proven organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent communication and reporting abilities. Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams, both on site and remotely. Proactive problem-solver with strong attention to detail. Detail-oriented, reliable, and focused on practical solutions. Willingness to support all departments within a small crew structure. Available for international travel as needed to support project milestones. Additional Notes / Preferences Must be fluent in English; knowledge of additional European languages is an asset. Must be eligible to work in Italy/EU or hold a valid work visa. Occasional travel to yard locations, supplier facilities, or vessel staging areas may be required.
