Abingdon School has an exciting opportunity for several Duty Managers to join the team. Location: Tilsley Park, OX14 1PU or Abingdon Sports Centre, OX14 1DE Job Type: Full Time or Part Time, Permanent Hours of Work: Full Time, Part Time, Evening and Weekend Roles Available Salary: Competitive Salary up to £29,660 per annum Closing date: 28 August 2026 About Us: Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school with more than 1,000 pupils aged 11-18. The School is situated in 35 acres of beautiful grounds in the centre of Abingdon, just south of Oxford. Duty Manager - The Role: Abingdon School Enterprises Ltd, known as Abingdon Sports and Leisure, are seeking enthusiastic, motivated and committed candidates to join our team managing the sports and leisure facilities at Tilsley Park and Abingdon School Sports Centre. The working arrangements are: Full Time Managers: Working on a rotating, variable shift basis including evenings and weekends at either Tilsley Park or the Sports Centre. Candidates may prefer to work across both sites or be based solely at one facility. All Sports Centre Duty Managers must hold or be willing and able to obtain a lifeguarding qualification (NPLQ). Weekend and Evening Managers: Working Saturdays, Sundays, or evenings only at Tilsley Park. Those who hold or are willing and able to obtain a lifeguarding qualification may also cover shifts at the Sports Centre. Part Time Managers: Flexible part-time hours may be available at either facility. Applicants interested in combining a Duty Manager role with another part-time position at Abingdon Foundation are particularly welcome. Duty Manager - Key Responsibilities: - To be an enthusiastic and supportive team member, working closely and effectively with all other members of ASE staff and the school PE department - To ensure staffing levels meet business requirements - To ensure effective delivery of programmed activities including classes, community sports club bookings and children's parties - To prepare the venue and associated equipment - To carry out regular checks of the facility to ensure it is clean and tidy - To offer a first-class and welcoming service to our customers at all times and be accountable during shifts for the overall customer experience Duty Manager - You: - Previous customer service or facility management experience is essential - Professional qualifications or relevant experience in the sports and leisure industry are desirable - Sports Centre Duty Managers must be able to meet swimming competency requirements to obtain a National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification - A positive, flexible and ‘can-do' attitude - Friendly and professional with consistently excellent customer service skills - Good general IT skills - Good administrative skills including attention to detail and a good standard of written English For Full Time Duty Manager - Benefits: - 25 days' paid annual leave plus the 8 public holidays - All year round staff also benefit from 4 additional noncontractual days off between Christmas Eve and New Year during the School's Christmas closure period - Competitive pension schemes - Death in service - Private health care scheme* - Wellbeing support through our Employee Assistance Programme, including access to free counselling, financial and legal advice - Free lunch during term-time - Free use of school gym and pool at agreed times - Discounted fitness classes - Free on-site parking and secure spaces for bikes - Cycle to work scheme - Discounted tuition fees up to 25 percent, pro rata for part-time staff, subject to eligibility - Staff discount on Super Camps courses and childcare vouchers - Regular staff social events *Eligibility criteria may apply for some staff benefits Application Process: We recognise the value of a diverse and inclusive workplace and are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and job applicants.
