Job Description

Our client, a leader in the logistics sector, is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented CHEP Pallet Controller to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and reconciling the CHEP pallet pool across multiple sites and carriers, ensuring accurate and on-time capture of pallet movements, minimising losses and hire costs, and supporting compliant returns and on-time deliveries. Key Responsibilities Capture and process all pallet movements (issues, accepts, exchanges, returns, scrap/repair) in MyCHEP and internal systems. Validate and rectify documentation defects on PODs, delivery notes, driver sheets, and GRVs. Complete customer, supplier, and carrier transfers within 24 hours of movement. Brief dispatch teams and drivers on pallet quantities and exchange rules, confirming at the gate. Perform daily and weekly reconciliations of system versus physical balances by site/partner. Investigate and resolve variances; manage disputes with CHEP and partners to closure. Review monthly hire and handling charges, highlighting anomalies and preparing recoveries or charge-backs. Prepare month-end reports, including dispute registers, variance analysis, and write-off proposals. Enforce CHEP exchange rules, company SOPs, and maintain documentation for audit readiness. Lead cycle counts, coordinate stock takes, and support CHEP/external audits. Coach operations teams on correct pallet segregation, handling, and compliance. Identify process gaps and implement improvements to reduce loss, damage, and admin errors. Act as primary contact for CHEP account support and pallet queries with customers, suppliers, and carriers. Maintain MyCHEP master data and onboard new sites and partners. Collaborate with Transport, Warehouse, Customer Service, and Finance teams to align pallet flows with logistics and billing processes. Requirements Matric (Grade 12) essential; a post-school qualification in logistics or supply chain will be advantageous. 2–4 years’ experience in pallet or inventory control, or in transport/warehouse administration (experience in FMCG, retail, or 3PL is highly beneficial). Proven proficiency in MyCHEP (or equivalent pooling system) with strong MS Excel skills. Demonstrated success in reconciliations, cost control, and dispute resolution. Skills & Competencies Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail. Strong administrative discipline with an audit-ready mindset. Problem-solving and root-cause analysis abilities. Ownership and accountability through to resolution. Clear communication across all levels, from floor staff to executives. Ability to prioritise tasks under pressure across multiple sites and partners. High integrity, reliability, and professionalism. Basic understanding of HSE and safe pallet/MHE environments. Tools & Systems MyCHEP portal. WMS/TMS/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage, NetSuite). Microsoft Excel and Office suite. POD imaging/EDM and BI dashboards.
