Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: Permanent Placement Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Hours (7 PM - 7 AM) Experience: One year experience in Emergency Services preferred. License: Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state required. Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association required. Current Pediatric Life Support (PALS) Certification through the American Heart Association required within 90 days of hire. NIH Stroke Scale Certification within 90 days of hire required. Assaultive Behavior Management training required within 90 days from date of hire. Must-Have: Basic arrhythmia knowledge or experience reflecting knowledge of Critical Care preferred. Description: The Registered Nurse has accountability for promoting, maintaining, and restoring the health of patients assigned to their care. This role requires the utilization of specialized knowledge and skills in the application of the nursing process. The RN is expected to provide competent care throughout the life span, from infancy through geriatric. General organizational responsibilities include treating everyone with dignity and respect and fostering collaborative relationships. The RN must consistently identify ways to improve customer service while reducing complaints. Regular attendance at department meetings and participation in committees is necessary. The RN assures timely compliance with job requirements, including annual testing and licensure renewals. The RN is responsible for keeping the work area clean, organized, and clutter-free. Report any unsafe situations or hazards immediately. Communication and working relationships involve interacting with patients, families, medical staff, and peers in a professional manner. Effective communication with the care team is crucial. Follows the chain of command and escalates issues appropriately. Patient privacy and confidentiality must always be respected, following all applicable laws. Population-specific standards include providing appropriate care for neonates, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations. Assessment duties involve performing initial assessments based on clinical presentation and completing documentation accordingly. The RN is accountable for ongoing awareness of assigned patients' statuses and must modify care plans as needed. Discharge planning needs must be assessed upon patient admission. Planning responsibilities involve identifying problems based on assessment findings and developing individualized care plans. It is essential to prioritize and coordinate plans of care with healthcare team members while documenting all changes. Implementation includes carrying out identified interventions and communicating patient care needs effectively to the healthcare team. Educating patients and families on relevant matters is a key responsibility. Evaluation of data collected regarding patient responses is necessary to ensure revisions to care plans are made as needed. The RN must demonstrate critical thinking skills and sound judgment in decision-making. Emergency situations require the RN to follow department guidelines to provide safe patient care. Core competencies include adhering to medication administration standards and maintaining clinical expertise. Demonstrating effective communication with fellow workers and physicians is vital for team coordination. Unit-specific competencies require thorough assessments and the ability to identify the nursing care needs of patients. Patient education and discharge planning are part of the responsibilities to ensure understanding and compliance with care plans. The RN must demonstrate knowledge of emergency interventions and exhibit proficiency in the use of necessary equipment. Conducting effective communications with the medical staff is essential for patient care. As a charge nurse, the RN must assign nursing responsibilities based on patient acuity while participating in quality improvement activities. Essential knowledge, skills, and abilities include effective communication, mathematical skills for calculations, and the ability to solve practical problems.
