About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Registered Nurse (RN) Specialty: RN ICU Duration: Permanent Placement Need Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Hours - 7 PM - 7 AM Experience: One year ICU/Step Down/PCU experience preferred License: Current RN license required Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (CPR) from American Heart Association required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association required within 90 days from the date of hire. Basic Arrhythmia Certificate or 12-Lead EKG Certificate preferred. CCRN preferred. NIH Stroke Scale Certification within 90 days of hire required. Assaultive Behavior Management training required within 90 days from the date of hire. Must-Have: Strong leadership, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Description: This position is responsible for all aspects of adult and geriatric patient care utilizing the Nursing Process. Accountable for maintaining standards of nursing practice and optimal patient outcomes in the ICU. Responsible for the supervision of all categories of nursing personnel. Treats everyone with dignity and respect and encourages collaborative relationships with colleagues, community providers, patients, and family members. Identifies ways to improve customer service and feedback while reducing complaints. Regularly attends department and staff meetings as appropriate. Participates in department and hospital committees. Assures timely compliance with job requirements including licensure and certification renewals. Keeps the work area clean, organized, and clutter-free. Notifies housekeeping or facilities management as appropriate. Ensures the department has necessary equipment and supplies to provide consistent quality and service delivery. Reports any unsafe situations or safety hazards immediately. Participates in emergency preparedness drills. Interacts with patients, families, guests, medical staff, and peers in a professional and timely manner. Communicates effectively with the care team and escalates issues or concerns appropriately. Follows the chain of command. Respects patient privacy and confidentiality, adhering to all laws. Demonstrates accountability for ongoing awareness for the status of assigned patients. Collects and documents data appropriate to the patient's condition. Reassesses the patient's care needs and modifies the plan of care as necessary. Assesses discharge planning needs for each patient upon admission. Identifies patient problems based on assessment findings. Develops an individualized plan of care, including the patient/family. Prioritizes and coordinates the plan of care with healthcare team members. Communicates pertinent data to physicians and modifies the plan of care as needed. Documents responses to the plan of care in the medical record. Implements identified interventions for each guideline of care from the individualized plan of care. Takes responsibility for educating patients/families and documents education/training within the medical record every shift. Provides appropriate emotional support and offers assistance to the patient/family. Analyzes data collected and revises the Plan of Care as necessary. Evaluates the patient’s/family response to teaching. Practices effective problem identification and resolution skills. Makes sound judgments based on strong assessment skills. Identifies patients needing emergency interventions. Demonstrates proficiency in crisis and emergency situations. Completes a thorough history/assessment on all assigned patients taking into consideration physiological and anatomical changes due to aging. Observes and collects data to identify nursing care needs. Initiates comprehensive care plans following full assessments. Provides quality nursing care based on patients’ needs. Provides concise and meaningful reports to fellow workers and physicians. Documentation reflects the plan of care and activities of patient care per physician orders. Functions as a sitter for safety and observation of patients when needed. Participates in unit quality improvement activities.
