Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP Rye Hill is a category 'B' training prison situated in the village of Willoughby, near Rugby in Warwickshire, holding approximately 664 sentenced male adults. We are looking for a part-time Roman Catholic Chaplain to be responsible for delivering the provision of worship and religious teaching opportunities for all faiths and to act as faith advisor providing advice, pastoral care and spiritual welfare to prisoners, staff and their families as requested. Key Responsibilities Facilitateanddeliveropportunitiesforworshipstudyandreligiousprogrammes Contributetowardsthedevelopmentoflocalpolicy,proceduresandpractice Providementoringandpersonalsupportforotherchaplainsandvolunteersincludingfollowing incidents Bepartoftheprovisionofavailableandaccessiblechaplaincycareatalltimes Planandleadworshipandprayer/faithspecificmeetings Providepastoralcaretoprisonersandhelptoprovidesupportandbringresolutiontocrisissituationswhere required NurtureChaplaincyvolunteersintheircontribution Facilitateservicesprovidedbycontractorsandvolunteers WorkcollaborativelywithotherChaplainsandManagingChaplainonthemaintenanceandprovisionoffacilitiesforworshipandprayer Ensureyourprisoncommunityisawareofrelevantreligiouseventsandcoordinateestablishmentsupportforthese Acquireanddistributeappropriatereligiousliterature,suppliesandmaterials Contributetotrainingprogrammesandmaterialsforstaffandvolunteers Beproactiveinforginglinkswiththeirlocalfaithcommunitiesandotheragencies,asrelevantandconsiderwaysinwhichthesecommunities/agenciesmaybecomeinvolvedinmentoringprisonersonrelease ParticipateindevelopingwaysforimprovingandachievingServiceDeliveryIndicators(SDI) Asrequired,undertakeandensurethatallrelevantadministration,datacollectionandanalysis includingrelevantSDIsarecollated BepartoftheorganisationanddeliveryofFaithAwarenessTrainingforstaff Takeresponsibilityforyourownspiritualhealthanddevelopment,allowingtimeforprivateprayer, studyandretreat ProvideappropriatesupporttotheestablishmentintheabsenceoftheManagingChaplain ActivelysupporttheAssessment,CareinCustodyandTeamwork(ACCT)process Attendrelevantboards/meetingsandactivelycontributeeitheraschairorteammember You must be an ordained priest in the Roman Catholic Church with formal endorsement in the form of recognition from the appropriate DiocesanBishop or Religious Superior and formal agreement to work in a specific dioceseby the local Diocesan Bishop (Evidence required before appointment). You must also have completed a formallyrecognised theological formation; for a Priest or Deacon in a major seminary or equivalent as prescribed by The Code of Canon Law and for a religious or lay person a theological qualification that, as the minimum, equates to the CCRS.
