Description: This is a mixed acuity unit that cares for both progressive care unit and medical-surgical patients. The surgical floor is very busy, requiring the ability to adapt quickly to changing needs. All permanent staff is trained in progressive care. Staffing ratios are aimed for 1:4 but may vary to 1:5 based on patient care needs. Weekend shifts will be variable based on unit requirements. There are no set or blocked schedules; staff may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination thereof. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, with changes subject to staffing priorities. Self-scheduling requests allow staff to input preferred schedules before final posting. The first week of orientation consists of daytime shifts, followed by 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor. Patient age groups include adults and geriatrics, with a focus on diagnoses related to surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics. Routine procedures involve chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies. Candidates must be responsive to credentialing processes, including any necessary fingerprinting requirements. Two professional references are required, with at least one from a manager or supervisor. Candidates must have graduated from an accredited nursing program.
