Provides professional nursing care to treat human responses to life-threatening problems. Conducts ongoing assessments of critically ill patients to promote optimal outcomes. Completes a comprehensive health history and physical assessment. Prioritizes patient problems and needs according to actual and potential threats. Develops and implements a plan of care based on ongoing assessments. Creates and updates a prioritized problem list to meet the needs of critically ill patients. Includes discharge planning and appropriate referrals in the care plan. Manages life-threatening complications of critically ill patients per established policies and procedures. Establishes interventions to prevent complications, maintain airway and ventilation, and ensure hemodynamic stability. Accepts responsibility for maintaining knowledge and skills in critical care practice. Maintains awareness of professional issues relevant to critical care. Updates knowledge and clinical skills regularly. Stays current on trends, scientific advances, biomedical equipment, and ethics in Critical Care Nursing. Completes mandatory education and participates in competency assessments. Assists with temporary pacemaker insertion and ambulance transport as required.
