Job overview We are looking to appoint a Whole-Time Consultant in Benign Gynaecology, at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based in the Jessop Wing of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers. Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered. Main duties of the job The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive benign gynaecology service. Track record / qualifications in one of the following areas or special interests would be an advantage: • Menopause • Hysteroscopy • Fast track clinic • Acute gynaecology and early pregnancy • Vulval The post holder will participate in the oncall rota. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria • Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise. • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. • MRCOG Postgraduate professional qualification Desirable criteria • MD or PhD or equivalent Continuous Professional Development Essential criteria • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months Desirable criteria • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio Management and Administration Essential criteria • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management Desirable criteria • Experience of working with management groups Clinical Governance and Audit Essential criteria • Experience in performing clinical audit Desirable criteria • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project Personal attributes Essential criteria • Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix) • Good written communication skills • Evidence of experience of working as part of a multi- professional team • The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013). Teaching and training Essential criteria • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels Research Essential criteria • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate Desirable criteria • Publications in Peer reviewed journals. Clinical experience Essential criteria • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in benign Gynaecology. • Evidence of competence in contemporary management strategies in benign gynaecology Desirable criteria • ATSM in benign abdominal gynaecological surgery, Acute gynaecology and early pregnancy, hysteroscopy: Menopause, vulval.
