*Working Title:*Open Rank Professor - Flavor Chemist *Department:*Food Science & Technology-0836 *Requisition Number:*F_250050 *Posting Open Date:*06/18/2025 *Application Review Date: (To ensure consideration, please submit all application materials before review date):*09/02/2025 *Open Until Filled:*Yes *Description of Work:*The Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) is seeking applications for an open rank professor Flavor Chemist position. This 9-month (academic year), tenure-track or tenured appointment will develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program in flavor chemistry. The apportionment is 80% research and 20% teaching. This position will be located in Lincoln, Nebraska. *Research*The selected faculty will conduct research related to flavor chemistry that may include, but not limited to, identification and quantification of aroma and flavor compounds in various food matrices; evaluation of stability and controlled release of flavor compounds; and relationship between flavor compounds to consumer acceptance using various analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry, chromatography, spectroscopy, among others. This position will help enhance the capabilities of the FST Department and increase its impact and recognition as a leader in food science while benefiting Nebraska’s agricultural ecosystem and economy. Other Research Duties Include: * supervising graduate and undergraduate students. * securing external funding (federal, private, and industry sources) to support research. * translating research output into high-impact, peer-reviewed journal articles, learning programs and tools, and professional presentations. * participating in scientific meetings and other appropriate professional activities. * engaging with national and international networks to broaden the impact of their research and the visibility of UNL. The selected faculty will be an integral part of interdisciplinary teams that bridge food, health, and processing. They will actively collaborate with other faculty in the department, staff and faculty of the Nebraska Food for Health Center (NFHC), the Food Processing Center (FPC), the Nebraska Gnotobiotic Mouse Program (NGMP), and the Food Allergy Research and Resource Program (FARRP). *Teaching*The incumbent will teach a course on sensory evaluation and/or food product development. Specific course assignments may be changed over time based on academic unit need. Additional responsibilities include participating in recruitment, retention, and placement activities and teaching outcome assessments; advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; and taking leadership roles in academic programming.
