Job Description
Key Responsibilities: Toolmaking Duties Manufacture new tooling and spares to support production timelines and customer requirements. Take ownership of specific, less complex tooling projects with minimal supervision. Support tooling for new projects from commissioning through to production. Participate in tooling buy-offs and production trials. Stay up to date with industry trends and contribute ideas for tooling improvement and best practices. Maintain accurate records related to tooling and update the Tool Room database accordingly. Maintenance and Production Support Conduct routine servicing and repairs on production tooling, jigs, moulds, and fixtures. Respond promptly to breakdowns and carry out preventative maintenance. Perform root cause analysis and implement engineering-level changes as required. Verify the functionality of tools, including electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic systems, before returning them to production. Attend relevant meetings and support colleagues and apprentices through training and mentorship. Quality Assurance Ensure that all work meets quality standards and supports company objectives. Participate in improvement initiatives and special projects as needed. Adhere to 5S methodology to maintain a clean and efficient work environment. Track project progress and report on outcomes as required. Reporting and Administration Identify and escalate potential safety issues or equipment damage. Report root causes of equipment failures, lost production time, and any incidents to management. Keep documentation and work records up to date. Compliance and Safety Operate within company procedures and controls to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. Conduct risk assessments and report any identified risks. Promote adherence to environmental and safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment. Ensure a safe working environment aligned with health, safety, and quality standards. Customer Service Foster strong working relationships with team members and internal customers. Identify and resolve issues proactively while demonstrating integrity and professionalism. Cost Control Support the efficient use of financial and material resources. Help control costs and ensure that any budgetary deviations are reported to the line manager. Understand and work within basic cost and budget measures related to tooling. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Matric (NQF Level 4) Trade Test: Toolmaker (NQF Level 5) Experience Minimum of 3 years experience in technical maintenance and toolmaking within a manufacturing environment At least 3 years' experience using tool-room machinery (e.g., lathes, mills) Preferred Experience Experience with CNC machinery Skills and Competencies: Technical Skills Basic proficiency in MS Office Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems Knowledge of standard maintenance practices, SOPs, and safety principles Behavioral Competencies Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Proactive and action-oriented mindset Flexibility and adaptability Good planning and organizational abilities Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) Customer-focused approach Resilient under pressure
