Job Description

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) oversees the Veterinary hospital’s operations, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and high-quality client services. This role is responsible for staff management, financial oversight, regulatory compliance, and high-quality service. The COO plays a strategic role in making decisions that affect the hospital’s overall success, defining future growth, and ensuring clinical excellence supported by robust, efficient, and scalable operations. Reporting Structure: Direct Report - The three owners jointly (or a designated "Managing Partner") The COO is fully accountable to ownership for financial and operational performance, maintaining a close partnership with clinical leadership. Direct Reports: Nurse Manager This role is supported by functions such as HR, Finance, Purchasing, IT & Facilities. Work Schedule: 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, on a rotational basis from 9 am to 6 pm or 8 am to 5 pm, as needed. Job Responsibilities: Hospital Operations Develop, implement, and update SOPs, ensuring compliance. Maintain staff readiness through training with the Nurse Manager. Standardize patient protocols, ensure regulatory and ethical compliance. Benchmark recovery rates, identify improvements. Champion workflow automation and technology adoption. Lead process improvements focusing on cost reduction and ROI. Oversee workforce planning and staffing during high caseloads or emergencies. Implement infection control, biosecurity, and emergency preparedness measures. Customer Service & Communication Implement client education programs, ensure transparency. Develop service quality benchmarks, ensure staff consistency. Ensure excellent client experience from admission to discharge. Optimize post-care follow-up and satisfaction scores. Monitor feedback and implement recovery strategies. Legal Standards & Compliance Ensure compliance with AVS, SVA, and other regulations. Maintain audit-ready documentation and conduct quarterly audits. Develop staff training on compliance. Implement documentation processes for veterinary procedures. Manage legal and regulatory reporting and accreditation processes. Human Resources & Workforce Planning Manage Department Heads and Vet Interns. Coordinate interviews, student placements, and records. Address disciplinary issues and work with HR. Finance & ROI Optimization Monitor industry financial trends and implement best practices. Manage budgets, forecasts, and procurement. Conduct financial analysis for decision-making. Present financial reports to stakeholders. Qualifications & Experience At least 10 years in healthcare/hospital administration or business operations. Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields. Experience in hospital/veterinary management with leadership skills. Strong communication, organizational, and people management skills. J-18808-Ljbffr
