The unit specializes in medical oncology and includes progressive care beds for pediatric patients. A minimum of 2 years of oncology experience is preferred, but not required. Nurses must be prepared to manage a variety of patient diagnoses, including solid tumors and orthopedic oncology. The unit is equipped with advanced telemetry technology and various medical equipment. The nurse is responsible for the interpretation of dysrhythmias and management of rapid response teams. Candidates should be skilled in feeding tube care, blood product administration, and central line management. Nurses will also need to manage cardiac drips and perform IV starts. Additional responsibilities include managing external CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and interpreting ABGs. Skills in wound care, chemotherapy administration, and arterial line management are advantageous. Successful candidates will receive orientation and training within the first two weeks of employment. The schedule has flexibility, with no set weekends and the possibility of working every weekend. Candidates must be adaptable to unit needs and willing to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity. Orientation will consist of a combination of classroom and on-unit training, totaling 24 hours. All candidates should be prepared for a comprehensive credentialing process.
