*Lecturer Pool German* *Position overview* *Salary range:* The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. A reasonable estimate for this position is $64,329 - $74,576. *Percent time:* Positions range from 33% to 100% each semester. Summer positions are 11%. *Anticipated start:* Positions usually start at the beginning of the semester (in mid-January for Spring Semester; in mid-August for Fall Semester). Summer appointments begin in late May and run into early August. *Review timeline:* Typically, appointments for summer and Fall semester are reviewed in February/March, and appointments for Spring semester in October/November. Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this pool does not guarantee that a position is available. *Position duration:* Appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis. Appointments may be renewable based on the department's needs, funding, and on lecturer performance. *Application Window* *Open date: *April 6, 2023 *Most recent review date:* Thursday, Apr 20, 2023 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Applications received after this date will be reviewed by the search committee if the position has not yet been filled. *Final date: *Friday, Apr 5, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Applications will continue to be accepted until this date, but those received after the review date will only be considered if the position has not yet been filled. *Position description* The Department of German at UC Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of qualified lecturers to teach German courses in any of the possible areas: * German language courses (of various levels) * Reading and Composition (first- and second-year undergraduate writing courses in English on German topics) * Upper-level courses in such areas as translation and multilingualism, German literature, and contemporary Germany (e.g. migration, nationalism, media, and popular culture) In addition to instruction, general duties include holding office hours, developing syllabi and assignments, writing and grading exams, and grading and commenting on papers.
