Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist Profession: Ultrasound Tech Specialty: Not specified Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in ultrasound preferred License: R.D.M.S. registered Certifications: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) Must-Have: - Must be able to perform CPR - Knowledge of all ultrasound equipment, their function, and operation of each control - Understanding of equipment and computer systems as well as the procedures for equipment service - Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology - Knowledge of safety, infection, and disaster policy and procedures, including implementation of patient care in cases of an emergency situation - Maintains CEU Credits Description: The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound. Utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist medical personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities is key to this role. Procedures must be performed according to departmental format, completing exams in allotted time. Daily clerical duties, including the use of computer systems for patient scheduling, are also required. Portable ultrasound exams must be performed as needed. Complex technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound utilize high frequency sound waves to detect anatomical abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, and stones. Assistance with physician-led biopsy and deep abdominal studies is required. Medical supplies, instruments, and equipment must be determined, prepared, and set up. Patients need to be prepared for diagnostic procedures; explaining procedures and positioning patients for each anatomical view is essential. Evaluating the technical quality of images and obtaining and processing images in accordance with standard procedures is a key responsibility. Records of ultrasound images must be maintained, including archiving and de-archiving data as required. Calculating, compiling, and recording data from numerical readings on patient charts and related documents is necessary. Equipment must be calibrated, cleaned, and routine maintenance performed to ensure proper functioning. Cleaning and sterilizing instruments, supplies, and equipment, as well as stocking and replenishing supplies, is required. Technical assistance and instruction must be provided to students and medical residents. Physical requirements include lifting a minimum of 25 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 50 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 6 hours a day. Patients must be greeted upon arrival for their exams utilizing proper customer service standards. Adherence to policies regarding behavior, attendance, and punctuality is expected. Identifying the needs of the patient population served and modifying care to meet those needs is essential. Effective communication with patients and caregivers at their level is required. Adherence to organizational competencies is mandatory.
