Job Description
Job Title: CT Tech Profession: CT Tech Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology; Less than 1 year experience in CT preferred License: Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. Certifications: ARRT Radiography, ARRT Computed Tomography, Basic Life Support (BLS) - Instructor Must-Have: Must exhibit excellent communication skills. Must be able to function independently and under pressure while participating in a team environment. Must possess excellent customer service skills at all times. Must be detail-oriented and have the capacity to effectively multitask throughout the work shift. Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to standard procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions the patient for the procedure. Verifies proper clinician order for the procedure. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and that right and left markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and ensures that life support equipment is maintained. Assists other technologists in all modalities as needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations that may require physician intervention. Verifies correct identity of the patient using two unique identifiers prior to performing a procedure. Ensures patient privacy and comfort are accommodated while maintaining dignity throughout the exam. Demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities efficiently. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Demonstrates proficiency with operating power injection equipment. Uses critical thinking skills when interacting with patients and families. Asks clarifying questions when needed and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out processes as appropriate. Prepares the patient for the procedure and demonstrates sterile technique. Maintains competency with venipuncture. Adjusts technique to ensure the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality. Reports equipment malfunctions to the supervisor in a timely manner. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to infection control policy. Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients clearly to minimize anxiety. Addresses patient questions and concerns satisfactorily, notifying a physician when necessary. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Ensures that required documentation is concise and legible. Completes mandatory departmental education without prompting. Consistently produces acceptable images and follows quality control measures. Ensures equipment is operational and properly calibrated prior to each use. Maintains departmental cleanliness by restocking linens and supplies. Transports and positions patients for procedures. Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered. Applies shielding and supportive devices as necessary. Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others as needed. Performs routine duties of clerical and support personnel when warranted to ensure continuity of services. Maintains productivity rates consistent with co-workers. Operates all workstations associated with the CT department. Maintains compliance with all applicable professional standards and regulations. Takes call when necessary and performs other duties as assigned. Maintains compliance with all policies, standards, and conduct codes.
