First review of applications March 24, 2025 This is a seasonal 40-hour per week position. The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday with an occasional evening or weekend assignment. Schedule details will be worked out with selected applicant. Seasonal Laborers may work up to six months (1040 hours) during the vegetation growing season and weather sensitive street and surface water maintenance activities between April/May and September/October. DEFINITION: This position performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties under the supervisory direction of the assigned work section Public Works Superintendent, Senior Maintenance Worker or other full-time maintenance staff. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Use light and heavy equipment, hand and power tools, and light and heavy vehicles to perform seasonal grounds and landscape maintenance. Perform seasonal maintenance tasks associated with vegetation control including line trimming, mowing, edging, pruning, hedge trimming, leaf blowing, litter control, and debris removal within public rights-of-way, easements, and surface water facilities. Assist with seasonal street asphalt and concrete maintenance work including crack sealing, grinding and patching, curb, gutter and sidewalk repairs. Assist with seasonal inspection, maintenance and repair activities on various surface water infrastructures including bio-swales, catch basins, ditches, pipes, control structures, storm detention and retention ponds. Perform traffic control activities (flagging, work zone set up and tear down) under direction and in support of seasonal work activities. Operate City vehicles in a proper and safe manner to transport personnel, materials, and miscellaneous equipment. Perform other related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS Valid State-issued driver's license with insurable driving record (successful candidate will need to provide a driving abstract). Must be at least 18 years old. Possess or obtain flagging and traffic control certification. Perform a variety of physically strenuous maintenance and construction tasks such as shoveling, raking, pruning, trimming, sweeping and debris removal. Operate light duty vehicles and battery, electric or fuel powered equipment. Utilize hand and power tools used in performance of duties. Perform semi-skilled tasks without close supervision. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Meet schedules and timelines. Perform physical labor in all weather conditions. Observe defensive driving practices. Positively and effectively interact with diverse individuals to accomplish a common goal. Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.
