Primary objective The Centre Support Officer (CSO) is responsible for providing professional, efficient, consistent and reliable customer service and security screening for all staff and visitors entering Youth Detention Centres in the Northern Territory. As part of a small team, they are required to process all visitor booking requests for and relating to young people in custody via phone, email and online in a timely and professional manner, and provide general support for the Centre, as required. Context statement There are three Centre Support Officers situated at each of the Youth Detention Centres in the Northern Territory, successful applicants are required to work shift work, a morning and evening shift, on a roster across 7 days a week. Key duties and responsibilities 1. CSOs are the first point of contact at both Northern Territory Youth Detention Centres, this contact can be either in person, via phone or email. They are required to arrange all visitor bookings for young people in Detention, ensuring that only authorised visitors are progressed. 2. CSOs will provide security scanning to every person entering the Centres, while maintaining accurate and detailed record keeping. 3. The CSO will be required to process travel requests and purchase goods and services within NTG Procurement guidelines, including maintaining, processing and reconciliation of credit card transactions. 4. CSOs will work as a team and maintain sufficient and accurate handover notes and records to ensure smooth shift transition. 5. Any other duties as directed by the senior management team. Selection criteria Essential 1. Experience in customer service with a high level of effective communication skills, both verbal and written, within a multicultural environment. 2. Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders, including members of the public while maintaining confidentiality and using diplomacy, discretion and empathy. 3. Demonstrated experience in an administrative support role or similar with the ability to follow instructions, work independently, problem solve, and use initiative. 4. Well-developed time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks to ensure they are completed within non-negotiable deadlines and maintain a high level of attention to detail. 5. Experience in the use of a range of computer software packages including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, and record management, or the ability to quickly acquire the required knowledge. 6. Ability to work as a part of a small team to cover a shift roster over 7 days per week with morning and evening shifts and keep well- maintained notes and details for handover to other team members to ensure smooth shift transition. Desirable 1. Knowledge and understanding of the requirements and limitations associated with working within a complex secure environment or similar. 2. Qualification in office administration or equivalent. 3. Knowledge of government policies and procedures, including records management, procurement and financial management.
