Job Description: - Perform all activities associated with the fabrication, production, and distribution of highway signs. - Produce sign blanks from aluminum or salvaged material. - Utilize a computer for sign production processes. - Conduct reclamation activities, reflective sheeting application, and assembly and fabrication of all extruded signs. - Perform silk screen activities, layout activities, and silk screen fabrication. - Read and interpret blueprints. - Sort, stack, load, and unload materials. - Lift and transport sign blanks and other materials. - Pack and distribute signs. - Store completed signs and materials in accordance with departmental standards. - Operate a forklift and various equipment used in the sign production process, such as shear machines, punch presses, squeeze roll applicators, and both automatic and manual silkscreen equipment. Additional equipment includes radial arm, band, and table saws, drill presses, and related hand tools and overhead cranes. - Use appropriate safety equipment like respirators, masks, and gloves following established safety practices and maintain quality control in all processes. - Establish order and priority of sign orders and produce special projects like banners, decals, and signage received from assigned agencies or other organizations. - Perform miscellaneous related duties, including maintaining inventory control of materials used in sign production, and cleaning and maintaining the shop area. Major Worker Characteristics: - Knowledge of industrial safety practices associated with sign fabrication and production. - Proficiency in mathematics, including fractions, decimals, and percentages. - Skill in silk screen printing processes and sheet metal work. - Operation of silk screen equipment, shearing punch press, plate press, radius machines, drills, rivet guns, vacuum and squeeze roll applications, vacuum frame, and exposure lamp. - Ability to apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems. - Ability to read and understand blueprints. - Demonstrate dexterity to use hands skillfully and maintain accurate records.
