Chief Officer - Legal and Governance Location: Rugby CV21 2RR West Midlands Salary: up to £78,011 (including Monitoring Officer Allowance of £5,978) Permanent Full-time: 37 hours per week We are working in partnership with a forward-thinking Local Authority client to recruit a highly capable and ambitious Chief Officer - Legal and Governance . This is a senior leadership role for an experienced legal and governance professional who is ready to make a real strategic impact. You'll be the organisation’s key legal advisor and Monitoring Officer, with leadership responsibility for Legal Services, Democratic Services, Elections, Business Support, and Equality & Diversity. The Opportunity As Chief Officer - Legal and Governance , you will: Provide strategic legal and constitutional advice at the highest level Act as Monitoring Officer , ensuring lawful decision-making and ethical standards Lead and modernise key corporate service areas Champion equality, diversity, and strong governance across all operations Support the senior leadership team in delivering a thriving and inclusive borough This role sits at the heart of a council with a strong reputation for innovation, collaboration, and resident-focused delivery. About You We’re looking for someone who brings: Qualified Solicitor or Barrister status with a valid practising certificate Significant experience in local government legal services and governance A track record of leading complex service areas through change and transformation Strong knowledge of the legislative framework for local authorities Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills What’s on Offer?
