Director of Transportation

Lead and manage strategic transport transformation initiatives across a global supply chain. Oversee the implementation and optimization of last-mile Transportation Management System (TMS) to enhance operational efficiency and visibility, ensuring seamless integration with SAP, WMS, and other supply chain platforms. Develop and execute cost optimization strategies. Drive vendor performance management by establishing KPIs, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring high service standards. Leverage data analytics and AI-driven insights to optimize fleet utilization, route planning, and cost reduction. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align transport solutions with business goals. Engage and negotiate with key logistics providers, ensuring service excellence, scalability, and long-term cost efficiency. Develop and implement sustainability-driven initiatives in transportation, such as alternative fuel vehicles, carbon footprint reduction, and green logistics strategies. Act as a change agent, driving digital transformation and adoption of new technologies in last-mile logistics and delivery operations. Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, risk mitigation, and contingency planning to safeguard operational resilience. Requirements At least 12 years of experience in transportation, logistics, and supply chain management, with a strong focus on last-mile delivery and transport optimization. At least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing transportation strategy, cost optimization, and digital transformation initiatives. Deep expertise in last-mile transportation strategy, optimization, and execution, with a strong background in TMS and digital logistics transformation. Extensive experience in transport network design, fleet management, and route optimization, ensuring cost efficiency and service excellence. Proven ability to lead large-scale, complex transport transformation projects, driving operational improvements and cost savings across multiple regions. Strong financial acumen, with expertise in transport cost modelling, budgeting, contract negotiations, and performance-based vendor management. Advanced knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and integration with ERP/WMS platforms, including AI-driven analytics for predictive decision-making. Experience in vendor and 3PL management, including contract negotiations, performance benchmarking, and strategic partnerships. Strong financial acumen, with experience in transport cost modeling, budgeting, and P&L management. Deep understanding of last-mile delivery trends, sustainability practices, and emerging technologies, including green logistics, e-commerce fulfilment, and alternative delivery models. Proficiency in project management methodologies (PMI, Prince2, Agile) and ability to drive structured, results-oriented execution. Strong leadership skills, with experience managing cross-functional, matrixed teams and influencing stakeholders at all levels. Education Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Transportation, or a related field. Advanced certifications in Project Management (PMI, Prince2, Agile) or Transportation Management Systems (TMS) are highly preferred. Professional qualifications in Supply Chain & Logistics, such as APICS (Certified Supply Chain Professional - CSCP), Lean Six Sigma, or CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport), are an advantage.
