Senior SQL Database Administrator

Job Description : We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior SQL Database Administrator to join our dynamic technology team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the expert management, maintenance, and optimization of our Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL database environments. You will leverage your deep technical expertise in high availability solutions, security best practices, and performance tuning to ensure the reliability, integrity, and performance of our mission-critical data infrastructure. This role requires a proactive individual with strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of managing complex database systems in demanding environments. Key Responsibilities : - Perform all aspects of SQL Server and Azure SQL database administration, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, security management, capacity planning, and performance monitoring. - Design, implement, configure, and maintain high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, with a strong focus on MS SQL Always On and related technologies. - Expertly manage and troubleshoot Windows Server Clusters that underpin our SQL Server Always On environments. - Implement and administer robust security measures, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), access controls, auditing, and adherence to security policies and compliance requirements. - Proactively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective tuning strategies, including query optimization, index management, and resource allocation. - Plan and execute database migrations from on-premise environments to Azure SQL Database, ensuring minimal disruption and data integrity. - Plan for production storage requirements, manage mount points, and proactively address capacity constraints to ensure optimal database performance and availability. - Implement comprehensive database monitoring using tools like MDW (Management Data Warehouse) and proactively troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner, including after-hours support on an on-call basis. - Participate in the design and implementation of new database systems, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and scalability requirements. - Utilize T-SQL scripting for automation of routine tasks, data manipulation, and reporting. - Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. - Ensure all database operations and configurations conform to client compliances and expectations. - Plan and execute SQL Server upgrades from legacy versions to the latest versions and apply necessary patches in a controlled and timely manner. Mandatory Skills & Experience : - Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in managing Microsoft SQL Servers and Azure SQL Database and/or related infrastructure. - Advanced experience in the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and management of MS SQL Always On availability groups. - Proven expertise of 5 years in Windows Server Management, including server configuration, security hardening, and troubleshooting. - Hands-on experience in implementing and managing Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) for SQL Server databases. - Strong understanding and practical experience in managing Windows Server Clusters for high availability. - Demonstrable ability to handle all SQL Database DBA related daily maintenance tasks effectively and efficiently. - Solid experience in Database and SQL Performance Tuning, including identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks. - Good experience in Windows Server patching methodologies and mount points management. - Knowledge and practical experience in Databases Migration from On-premise to Azure SQL Database. - Extensive experience in installing and managing various versions of SQL Server. - Proficiency in configuring and administering SQL Server security, policies, resource governor, and MDW. - Experience in managing database performance using MDW and other monitoring tools. - Experience in the implementation and administration of high availability and disaster recovery solutions across multiple datacenters. - Proven ability in planning for production storage and capacity management. - Hands-on experience in diagnosing, monitoring, and troubleshooting Windows server issues related to SQL Server. - Experience in creating databases from the ground up, including schema design and object creation. - Strong knowledge of T-SQL scripting for administrative tasks and data manipulation.
