Data Architect Job Description : We are looking to add a seasoned Data Architect with a heavy focus on Analysis, Design and Documentation as a key member of the Data Infrastructure team of a multi-billion-dollar global asset management company. Candidates must have extensive experience with SQL Server Architecture, Engineering, Analytics and Governance with significant technical expertise in Azure Cloud data platforms. Top Skills - SQL Server; Azure Synapse Database Architecture Job Duties : The Data Architect will apply their technical subject matter expertise to perform and support ongoing efforts to both govern and improve data operations of the firm. You will be a leader of the Data Infrastructure team with a focus on analyzing and documenting existing systems; helping to plan for modernization, and participating in the data governance activities. This role will require top-tier SQL skills with a mix of business, technical and strategic acumen. Your job responsibilities will include: - Documenting data systems: You will establish an inventory of all data systems in use and maintain documentation on their functionality, data schema, data flows, and other relevant information. - Analyzing existing SQL Server code, data structures and configurations, identifying opportunities to improve and modernize systems. - Providing recommendations for migrating existing workloads from SQL Server to Azure. - Developing and maintaining data architectures: You will need to design and maintain data architectures that support the organization's data needs, including data storage, data processing, and data integration. - Maturing and modernizing the existing data estate: You will need to review and make recommendations to improve on-premises SQL Server workloads and facilitate an orderly migration of data to the cloud in a manner that meets the organization's needs, including data storage, processing, and integration. Additional Job Responsibilities may include: - Assisting in developing and implementing a data governance program: You will participate in designing and implementing data governance policies, procedures, and standards that ensure data quality, security, and compliance across the organization. - Overseeing data classification and data security: You will need to ensure that data is properly classified, and that appropriate controls are in place to protect data in a manner that complies with regulatory requirements and best practices for data security. - Developing data lineage: You will help to set standards for tracking data from its original source through to its use in applications and reports, and documenting that information to ensure data quality and traceability. - Ensuring data security and compliance: You will need to ensure that data systems and processes comply with regulatory requirements and best practices for data security. - Providing technical guidance: You will need to provide technical guidance to data engineers, data scientists, analysts and other data professionals on best practices for data management, integration, and processing. - Collaborating with cross-functional teams: You will need to work closely with cross-functional teams such as data analysts, data scientists, software engineers, and business stakeholders to understand their data needs and design data solutions that meet their requirements. Job Requirements : "REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: - Minimum of 7 years of experience designing and developing Microsoft SQL based data management solutions for large enterprises with multiple business entities and locations. - Minimum of 3 years of architect level experience designing and developing both on-premise SQL Server and cloud-based data solutions in Azure using Synapse and Azure Data Factory - Experience participating in at least one successful data warehouse migration from on-premises SQL Server to Azure - Bachelor's degree in information technology or engineering discipline. SKILLS & TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: MUST HAVE Expert level experience and understanding of: - Administration and Development of Operational and Data Warehouse systems using Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Synapse - Data engineering (ETL/ELT) using both SSIS and Azure Data Factory - Cloud Analytics & Reporting using PowerBI, Databricks/Spark and other cloud-based systems. - Expert knowledge of Data Solution Architectures, with the ability to create technical and business documentation. - Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills are required along with experience presenting to senior technical and business management. - Experience as a leading small to medium teams of business and technical resources Desired Skills & Experience - - Experience in data governance, including experience in developing and implementing data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures, as well as experience in conducting data quality assessments, identifying data-related risks, and managing data-related issues. - Experience in data privacy and compliance, experience with data modeling and metadata management, and knowledge of data governance tools and technologies. - Experience working in Financial Services, especially for large Asset Management firms is strongly desired. - Familiarity with DevOps principles and techniques including CI/CD and Agile (Kanban/Scrum) Delivery of Data Solutions. - Familiarity with project management including estimation and risk management. - Working knowledge of the SDLC and IT Operations. - Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Data Certifications a big plus - Strong client focus and customer service skills.
