Job Description

This is a TERM appt (not-to-exceed 2 contract years). Term appts are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 2). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Employees selected for Term appts may be converted to school year or year long contract without further competition.

The Bureau of Indian Education's mission is to provide quality education opportunities from early childhood through life in accordance with the tribes' needs for cultural and economic well-being and in keeping with the wide diversity of Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages as distinct cultural and governmental entities. This is a Year Long contract position is filled under P.L. 95-561 and will require a contract renewal on an annual basis. INDIAN PREFERENCE: Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472). Verification Form BIA-4432 must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference. Indian preference eligibles that are not currently employed in the Federal service will be appointed under the Excepted Service Appointment Authority Schedule A, 213.3112(A)(7). In the absence of a Qualified Indian Preference eligible, a Qualified Non-Indian applicant may be considered. Job Requirements

Who May Apply: Applicants with Indian Preference All U.S. Citizens Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements contained in the approved job category for P.L. 95-561 described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Education Requirement for Pay Level 21-24: Applicants must possess a Masters degree (or higher) and at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following fields: test and measurements, adult education, educational program administration, curriculum development or design, teaching methods, guidance and counseling, career planning, or occupational information. (This requirement can be obtained within the degree or in addition to the degree.) Applicants must also have state certification in the state where they will be employed. Emergency and provisional certifications may be accepted under the conditions imposed by the state certification authority. Pay Level Requirements:To qualify for a pay level, you must have completed the degree requirement and if stated the required semester hours at the next level of education from an accredited university in a related field of study.
