Groundsperson Plumpton Racecourse Location: Plumpton, East Sussex Contract Type: Full-time Closing Date: Sunday 27th July 2025 A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our award-winning Grounds Team at Plumpton Racecourse, nestled in the heart of the East Sussex countryside at the foot of the South Downs. Working as part of a small but passionate team, you will play a key role in maintaining the racing surface and surrounding grounds to the highest standard. The quality of our track and facilities is fundamental to the success of our business, and this role is central to achieving those standards. Responsibilities Support the Clerk of the Course to ensure the track, racecourse grounds and external spaces are maintained in pristine condition year-round, especially on racedays. Assist with cleaning, maintenance and care of the stables in line with the Rules of Racing. Ensure all machinery is cleaned, maintained and operated safely in line with internal procedures. Comply with all current health and safety legislation and company policies. Carry out general site and building maintenance tasks (desirable). Personal Characteristics Were looking for someone who is: Hardworking, proactive and versatile across a wide range of tasks Reliable, punctual and with good time management Friendly, approachable, and a good communicator Flexible and happy to work varying hours around raceday schedules A natural team player with leadership potential and motivation skills Able to work independently and use initiative effectively Have familiarity, experience or qualifications in the use of grounds machinery, including but not limited to: mowers, strimmers, tractor driving, spraying & ATV use. Possess GMA/IOG or NVQ Qualifications in Turf Management and/or Pitchcare (desirable but not essential). Health & Safety qualifications or CRB checks (desirable) Full UK Driving Licence (essential) Plumpton Racecourse is a National Hunt venue racing from September to May with at least 16 fixtures each season. With a circuit just over a mile long, it offers fantastic viewing in a stunning rural setting. Key racedays include the Sussex National in January and our popular Easter Festival, featuring the Sussex Champion Hurdle and Sussex Champion Chase.
