Job Description
A nurturing, two-form entry primary school in the heart of Snaresbrook is seeking a compassionate and resilient 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a bright Year 1 pupil with Autism. This rewarding role is ideal for someone experienced in working with children with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, and who can provide the structure and consistency required for meaningful progress. The child you’ll support is intelligent and observant but finds transitions and unfamiliar settings particularly difficult. He is a known flight risk and has exhibited physically aggressive behaviour when dysregulated. The successful 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant will need to remain calm under pressure, set clear boundaries, and approach every challenge with empathy and patience. Key Responsibilities: • Work 1:1 with the pupil to implement a consistent, visual-based routine. • Support emotional regulation using structured, nurturing behaviour strategies. • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored interventions aligned with the pupil’s EHCP. • Ensure safety through proactive risk management and close supervision. • Contribute to regular reviews and progress tracking. Requirements • Minimum Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification. • Proven experience supporting children with Autism and challenging behaviour. • Training in Team Teach or other de-escalation techniques (desirable). • Excellent communication skills and a calm, caring demeanour.
